Tahtakale is the wholesale market district between the Spice Bazaar and the Golden Horn. It is not a tourist attraction and does not present itself as one, which is the main reason to go.
The area is organised by trade. One street sells coffee, nuts and dried fruit; another kitchen and restaurant equipment; another haberdashery. Shops open early and start closing in the late afternoon, and most are shut on Sundays. Cash is easier than card in the smaller ones.
For anyone buying spices, coffee or copperware, prices here are well below the Spice Bazaar a hundred metres away. From Hotel Yasmak Sultan the walk is about fifteen minutes, down through Sirkeci and along the shore.
